It’s a sad fact that motorbike accidents happen a lot. No matter how carefully you ride or how experienced you are, there’s still that possibility that you could be involved in a crash. You can’t deny that wearing a helmet to protect your head when riding a motorcycle is a must. Here are some tips to choose the right helmet for you!
- Try it on
Choosing a helmet won’t be as easy as fitting a shirt. Carefully try on helmets one by one until you get the perfect fit and weight, since you might be wearing this gear for hours. It is also helpful if you know the size of your head before going to a helmet store (S – 55-56 cm, M – 57-58 cm, L – 59-60 cm, XL – 61-62 cm).
- Look for a clear and transparent visor
Dark visors look trendy and cool. But if this kind of visor gives you trouble seeing, especially during night time, you’d better not buy a helmet with this kind of visor.
- Buy a brand new one
Don’t buy a second-hand helmet , unless you don’t have a choice. Like food, helmets have an expiration date. It has something to do with the quality of the material used in a helmet. The life of a helmet ends in about 3-year’s time. So, you’d better buy yourself a new one instead of risking your life.
- Choose the right type
There are two types of helmet: half-face (3/4) and full-face. Although a half-face provides more ventilation to the user, a full-face helmet is a better choice since it provides the head a full protection. Even though some people don’t like to wear it because they find it difficult to put it on and off, a full-face helmet provides the highest level of safety. It also has a clear visor which covers the eyes for added safety. This visor helps to stop dirt and debris from entering the eyes. The bottom part of the helmet also stops any unwanted stuff from entering your mouth.
